At the Faculty of Law, University of Zenica, a panel discussion and march were held to mark White Ribbon Day.
In collaboration with ELSA Zenica, the Faculty of Law at the University of Zenica continued the tradition of observing White Ribbon Day and paid tribute to the victims of the Prijedor death camps.
We are immensely grateful to everyone who attended the panel discussion and the march, as well as our panelists who left a lasting impression on the guests with their stories.
It is important to emphasize that remembering and learning about war crimes and crimes against humanity should be the duty of every citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On Friday, March 3rd, 2023, a round table discussion was held at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zenica on the topic of “Implementation of professional student practice” as part of the project called “Strengthening the judiciary system through improving practical training of Law students/interns in Bosnia and Herzegovina (JUST ED Project)”, which our faculty implements in collaboration with the National Center for State Courts – Office in BiH. This is a project for elective professional practice in Criminal Procedure Law in judicial institutions and law offices in Zenica. In this regard, professional student practices in the framework of Criminal Procedure Law have been realized in the winter semester at the Prosecutor’s Office of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, the Municipal Court in Zenica, the Cantonal Court in Zenica, and in two law offices in Zenica. Thirty third-year students from our faculty completed professional practice. The project continues in the summer semester, when professional student practice in the subject of Civil Procedure Law will be implemented at the Municipal and Cantonal Courts in Zenica for fourth-year students from our faculty.
On December 20, 2022, a scientific conference titled “Civil Activism and Resistance to Fascism as Expressions of Democracy and Human Rights – Eighty Years since the Signing of the Zenica Resolution and One Hundred and Ten Years since the Birth of Fadil Imamović” was held at the Faculty of Law, University of Zenica. The conference was organized by the Bosniak Cultural Community “Preporod,” the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Zenica Mufti’s Office, and the University of Zenica, which also served as the host institution.
The keynote speakers at the conference were the esteemed Reis-ul-Ulema Dr. Husein ef. Kavazović, Prof. Dr. Mevludin ef. Dizdarević (Zenica Mufti), Prof. Dr. Sc. Jusuf Duraković (Rector of the University of Zenica), and Prof. Dr. Sc. Ajdin Huseinspahić (lecturer in the History of the State and Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina and President of the BZK “Preporod” Zenica).

On February 24, 2022, the second Scientific Conference on “Property Rights and State Property in Bosnia and Herzegovina” was successfully held in the City Hall of Sarajevo. The conference was organized by the University of Zenica, the Faculty of Law at the University of Zenica, and the City of Sarajevo.
The introductory remarks were delivered by: Dr.Benjamina Karić, Mayor of the City of Sarajevo, Prof.Dr.Jusuf Duraković, Rector of the University of Zenica, Prof.Dr. Larisa Velić, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Zenica
During the first session of the conference, titled “Socio-Historical Aspects,” the speakers were: Academician Slavo Kukić, Prof.Dr.Edin Mutapčić, Prof.Dr.Ajdin Huseinspahić, Prof.Dr.Sead Turčalo

The conference concluded with several key points:
– Bosnia and Herzegovina needs legislation on state property, legislation on common and public goods, and legislation on the registration of state property.
– Competent institutions should utilize all legal mechanisms to protect state property.

The United Nations General Assembly declared January 27th as International Holocaust Remembrance Day in 2005. On this day, the goal is to remember all the tragically lost victims, and educational institutions have a special role in marking this date.
On Wednesday, January 26, 2022, the Faculty of Law at the University of Zenica organized an online panel discussion to commemorate this day. The panel included Mr.Rejhan Prohić, whose family received the special Righteous Among the Nations award, Prof.Dr.Dževad Drino, Prof.Dr.Ajdin Huseinspahić, and Assoc. Prof.Dr.Enis Omerović. A special surprise was the presence of Mr.Egon Sonnenschein. Egon Sonnenschein is the half-brother of Mrs. Nada Koloman, a Jewish girl saved by the Prohić family from Gračanica, who also survived the horrors of the Holocaust.
Additionally, representatives of the University of Zenica and the Faculty of Law attended a Commemorative Gathering on January 27, 2022, on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, where they laid flowers at the Old Jewish Cemetery in Zenica. The Commemorative Gathering was organized by the Jewish Community in Zenica and the Interreligious Cooperation Committee in Zenica.
Thanks were extended to all those who contributed to marking this significant date in civilization, with the sincere hope that the world will never again witness such horrific suffering.
